Thenga’s products are eco friendly. They are made of coconut shell. It is not uncommon to see piles of coconut shells slowly decomposing in landfills.

In the lush plains of Palakkad in Kerala, fringed by mountains, coconut farms flourish. The tall palms shoot up to the sky bearing large coconuts.

Palakkad thrives on coconut and its related industries - oil, coir etc. The coconut is a symbol of Kerala - which roughly translates to land of coconuts.

Maria Kuriakose founded Thenga fueling an artisan revolution in the state. Thenga’s sustainable coconut shell products are revolutionising local communities.

Thenga created Rural Employment in Kerala. One part of the coconut tree goes by largely underutilised so Thenga is trying to make a change.

Kerala faces an employment problem despite its high human development and literacy rates.

Thenga employs 16 artisans in rural Kerala, turning discarded coconut shells into utility products.
